If your compost pile doesn€™t have a concrete or wood bottom, worms will naturally migrate up through the pile, until they reach a point where the temperature is too hot. In general, local small-scale farms use more sustainable food production methods because their client-base is seeking quality over quantity. Add a thick layer of loose straw to the garden 20cm (8 inches) and another layer of fertilizer and then top it off with 10cm (4 inches) of compost.
